Henry W. Wong, MSW RSW

Henry is also fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.

Henry is a registered social worker in Ontario and Alberta. He is a member both of the Alberta College of Social Workers and the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. 

Henry is experienced in providing individual therapy for children (10 years+), youth, adults, couples, and families experiencing various issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma and attachment, psychosis, grief/loss, addiction, and alcohol/drug misuse, mental health, domestic violence, intimate partner violence, and peer/family conflict.

Henry uses a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including the Feedback Informed Treatment Approach, Discernment Therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Emotional solution focused therapy, and Narrative therapy. 

Henry practices through an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed lens in order to offer a safe and brave space. 

He is very experienced in supporting diverse clients (BIPOC, Indigenous Communities) with complex needs by striving to build safe, trusting relationships with individuals and families. He is also a skilled group facilitator and presenter. 

Henry believes a solid therapeutic relationship between therapist and client is the foundation needed to help build a good rapport and create a comfortable environment. He helps empower people to achieve the meaningful change they have set for themselves in a non-judgmental and safe space. He allows clients to process difficult experiences and works through unhealthy thinking patterns and behaviors to build a healthy present and future. 

Henry is here to help you develop healthy coping mechanisms, strengthen your relationships, ease anxiety, and gain confidence. Throughout the therapeutic process, Henry can help you recognize your strengths, in order to help overcome the challenges you are faced with. It is an honor and privilege to serve our community and help people on their healing journey. 

He believes that core competencies allow him to do his best work while having a range of techniques that will enable him to find the best-suited approach for each individual/family. Henry is looking forward to meeting you and seeing where our journey may lead. He would like to remind you that you are the one who leads the way. He is here to support you in what you already know and to help guide you in the areas that may need more exploration with my knowledge.  

Henry offers special insight for clients with Christian or Buddhist beliefs. 

In his spare time, Henry enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking, cycling, skating, snowshoeing, traveling, driving, and listening to music. Henry believes that nature and exercise are healing for the body, mind, and spirit.
